Should A Boston Terrier Tail Be Docked?

on February 01, 2023

The debate on whether Boston Terrier tails should be docked or not has been a long and ongoing one. While some people argue that docking the tail of a Boston Terrier is cruel and unnecessary, others argue that it has been part of the breed’s long-standing tradition and should be continued. So, should a Boston Terrier tail be docked? Let’s take a closer look.

Should A Boston Terrier Tail Be Docked?

First, it’s important to understand that docking a dog’s tail is a procedure that has been around for centuries. It was originally done to protect working dogs from injury, as their tails often got in the way of their work. However, with the breed of Boston Terrier, there was never a need to dock their tails, as they were never used as a working dog.

On the other hand, some people argue that docking the tail of a Boston Terrier is necessary in order to maintain the breed standard. This means that the dog needs to have a specific shape and appearance in order to meet the breed standard. While this is true, it’s also important to remember that the breed standard is ever-changing and can be updated to reflect the changing views of society.

Ultimately, the decision of whether or not a Boston Terrier tail should be docked is a personal one. Some owners choose to dock the tail for aesthetic reasons, while others see it as a cruel and unnecessary practice. Ultimately, it’s up to the owner to decide what’s best for their Boston Terrier.

No matter what decision you make, it’s important to ensure that your Boston Terrier is healthy and happy. If you do decide to dock the tail, make sure that it’s done in a safe and humane way. The most important thing is that your Boston Terrier is loved and cared for, no matter what their tail looks like.

Most Boston’s are born with super short tails or curly Q tails there is no need to dock them that’s how they are born. I grew up around someone who breed them and he never had a need to dock their tail.
