The Haggerty Spot is a mark that some Boston Terrier dogs have on top of their heads. It is also known as the Haggerty dot.
It's called the Haggerty Spot because it's coming from one of the first Boston Terrier lines owned by the Haggerty's family back in the 1900s. Many of their Bostons were born with the spot on top of their heads. This marking ended up being associated with their Boston Terrier line. Nowadays, most Boston Terrier dogs who have this marking can be traced to the Haggerty's Boston Terrier line.
While the Haggerty Spot is a unique and distinct marking, it is not a required or recognized trait in the Boston Terrier breed standard. The American Kennel Club (AKC) recognizes only a specific set of coat colors and patterns for Boston Terriers, and the Haggerty Spot is not one of them.
However, many Boston Terrier enthusiasts and breeders consider the Haggerty Spot to be a desirable trait. It is often seen as a sign of a purebred Boston Terrier with a strong lineage.
The Haggerty Spot is also sometimes referred to as a "kiss mark" or "angel kiss," and some owners believe it brings good luck to their dogs.

I grew up with Boston’s and now, as a (young) senior, I s to I’ll have 2. They are the loves of our heart and just the sweetest, kindest, most playful dogs we can imagine. Our one has the Haggerty spot and is just too adorable for words. Oh, did I mention ..we are adopting our third this week and yes ! She has the Haggerty spot too . Our dogs are cousins. Blessings to all Bostie parents far and wide !!!!
I adopted my Coco (Chanel) last July when she was 10 mos. old. A family in NH had surrendered her to a rescue. She is a black brindle and has a Haggerty spot. Coco is the 2nd Boston that I’ve adopted over the years and they are one of the funniest, smartest breeds ever!
My male Boston, Theodore aka Teddy, clearly has a diamond Haggerty Spot. He is black, brindle and white and has almost perfect markings. He was born October 2, 2022 at 4:36 AM and was one of five. He was the only one born with the Haggerty Spot aka the Kissy Spot. He too is on the larger size weighing in at a solid 24.2 lbs. We live on the Oregon Coast and he is the love of my life!
My doggo is mixed with a rat terrier and jack Russel so not purebred but she has one. And she’s the best doggo ever.
My Charlie is 6 and has none but both parents do. He was the only red in his litter and both parents were black and white. My Willow is 2, chocolate brindle, and has a closed (joined) haggerty mark. We had puppies in August, 8 of them in her first litter. 2 had very defined haggerty marks, 4 others had closed ones.
My Florence has the Haggerty and she’s 13.5 kg off stunning Boston she’s two in March will bread her then from the litter she came from in Leicester england 4 had the haggerty
My Mona has the perfect spot right in the center of the top of her head nestled on the white between her black ears. She is absolutely a doll and so very spoiled.
My new Boston has a very clear Haggerty spot. She is also CKC registered with a championship bloodline tracing back about 6 generations. I would love to connect the two!
I have a wonderful Boston appropriately named Tank. He has perfect proportionate markings and is a massive 36 pounds of pure muscle! My question is when they have a Haggerty mark, do they tend to be bigger than Boston’s that don’t have one?
Yep – our Hazel Mae has one!
My first Boston had one but it was more of a “smudge” – it touched on her black fur on both sides. My new baby, coming to me in about 10 days, has a perfect, isolated spot.
